PDF metadata viewer and editor
Every PDF carries details about itself: a title, an author, the programs that made it and when. See them, and change them, before you send or publish a document. The PDF never leaves your device.
How to view and change PDF metadata
- Tap Choose a PDF and pick the file.
- See what it reveals. Private details, like an author's name, are marked in red.
- Change any field, or empty it to remove it, and tap Save these details.
- Download the new copy. To clear everything instead, tap Remove all metadata instead.
What the fields mean
| Field | What it usually holds |
|---|---|
| Title | Shown in the browser tab and sometimes in search results instead of the file name. |
| Author | Often the name of the account on the computer that wrote the document, added without asking. |
| Subject, Keywords | A description and search words; usually empty. |
| Made with | The program the document was written in, such as Microsoft Word (in the PDF it is called "Creator"). |
| PDF made by | The software that turned it into a PDF, often with its version ("Producer"). |
| Created, Modified | When the PDF was first made and last saved, with the time zone. |
What else a PDF can reveal
- Earlier versions: some programs add each change to the end of the file, so the old text can still be inside.
- Names in comments: each note or highlight records who made it.
- Photos with their own metadata: a phone photo put into a PDF can still carry its camera and GPS location.
- XMP metadata and extra fields such as Company, added by Office and design programs.
The tool lists all of these. Remove metadata from a PDF clears them in one step.
Frequently asked questions
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. The PDF is read and saved in your browser and never sent to dedigger or anyone else. dedigger only counts when a copy is downloaded, never what it contains.
Will the pages change?
No. Text, pictures, links, bookmarks and form fields stay exactly as they are; only the details about the file change.
My PDF reader still shows the old title. Why?
Many readers show the file name, not the title. Rename the file too. The saved copy also drops the PDF's XMP copy of the old details, so readers that prefer XMP show the new ones.
Can I change a PDF that has a password?
No. Open it with the password, save a copy without it, and use the copy.
Working with photos? The EXIF viewer shows a photo's camera, date and location. More free tools for checking files are in OSINT tools for files.
