EXIF viewer online: see a photo's hidden details

Check where and when a photo was taken, or what it says about you before you share it. Pick a photo: the camera, the dates, the location and everything else saved inside it show up here, and the photo never leaves your device.

What EXIF data can show

  • Location: phones save the GPS position where a photo was taken, often to within a few metres. Open it on the map to see the place.
  • Date and time: when the photo was taken and when it was last edited, sometimes with the time zone.
  • Camera and settings: the make and model, the lens, and the exposure, aperture, ISO and focal length.
  • Software: the app or editor that last saved the file, and sometimes its editing history.
  • Names and serial numbers: some cameras save the owner's name and the camera's serial number.
  • A hidden preview: a small copy of the picture saved inside the file. If the photo was cropped or edited, the preview can still show the original.

How to see the EXIF data of a photo

  1. Tap Choose a photo and pick a JPG, PNG or WebP file.
  2. Read the summary. What stands out is listed at the top, in red when it is private.
  3. Open All metadata for every field in the file.
  4. To share the photo without any of it, tap Download photo without metadata.

Why a photo may show no EXIF data

Most social networks and chat apps remove the metadata from photos posted the usual way, and screenshots rarely have any. So a picture saved from Facebook, Instagram, X or WhatsApp usually shows little or nothing. The original file, as it came from the camera or phone, still has it all.

Frequently asked questions

Is my photo uploaded?

No. The file is read in your browser and never sent to dedigger or anyone else. dedigger only counts when a clean copy is downloaded, never what a photo contains.

Which files work?

JPG, PNG and WebP. HEIC photos from an iPhone can't be read here yet: open this page on the iPhone and pick the photo there, which hands it over as a JPG, or save it as JPG first.

Can the location or date be wrong?

Yes. GPS can be off by a few metres, or much more indoors, the camera's clock may be wrong, and anyone can edit metadata. Treat it as a clue to check against other sources, not as proof.

What is the hidden preview?

Cameras and phones save a small copy of the picture inside the file so it shows quickly in galleries. Some editors don't update it, so a cropped photo can still carry a preview of the whole scene.

How do I remove the metadata?

Tap Download photo without metadata above, or go to remove metadata from a photo. For documents, use PDF metadata.
