Compress PDF to 200 KB, 100 KB or any size
Make your PDF small enough for the limit your application form asks for. The PDF is processed on your device and never uploaded.
How to compress a PDF to 200 KB
- Tap Choose a PDF and pick your file.
- Choose the size limit your form asks for, such as 100 KB, 200 KB or 500 KB, or type another one.
- Tap Compress PDF. Big files can take a few seconds.
- Check the result and tap Download PDF. Your original file stays as it was.
How it works
The tool turns each page into a picture and saves it at the highest resolution and quality that still fits your limit. That makes scanned certificates, mark sheets and photographed documents much smaller.
The catch is that the text on the pages becomes part of the picture: it still looks the same, but you can't select or copy it anymore. That is fine for uploading to a form, but keep the original PDF for anything else.
If it can't reach the limit
- Tick Black and white: without colour the file gets noticeably smaller, and most documents read just as well.
- Upload fewer pages: if the form wants one document per file, split the PDF with our merge and split PDF tool.
- Check the notification: the limit is sometimes higher than you think, such as 500 KB or 1 MB.
- If the result is hard to read, scan the document again in daylight or with a scanner app, then compress the new file.
Why the PDF passes both ways of counting KB
Some websites count a kilobyte as 1,000 bytes and others as 1,024. The tool keeps your PDF under the limit counted with 1,000 bytes, so a 200 KB limit means at most 200,000 bytes, which is also under 200 KB when a site counts 1,024.
Frequently asked questions
Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?
No. The PDF is opened and compressed in your browser, on your device. It is never sent to dedigger or anyone else.
Can I compress a PDF that has a password?
No. The tool can't open PDFs protected with a password.
My PDF is already small. Why doesn't it compress?
If the PDF is already under your limit, the tool tells you so: you can upload it as it is.
Only have photos of your documents? Turn them into a PDF under the limit with our JPG to PDF tool.
