CGPA to percentage calculator with official formulas
Each board and university converts CGPA to percentage in its own way, so a CGPA of 8.2 can be 74.5% at one university and 82% at another. Choose yours and get the percentage with the official formula and a link to its source.
Official formulas
These are the formulas each board or university publishes. Each name links to the official document, and the last column shows what a CGPA of 8.2 becomes with each formula.
| Board or university | Formula | CGPA 8.2 |
|---|---|---|
| CBSE Class 10 | CGPA × 9.5 | 77.9% |
| VTU, 2022 scheme | CGPA × 10 | 82% |
| VTU, 2021 scheme | (CGPA − 0.75) × 10 | 74.5% |
| VTU, 2015 to 2018 schemes | (CGPA − 0.75) × 10 | 74.5% |
| GTU | (CPI − 0.5) × 10 | 77% |
| KTU, B.Tech 2019 scheme | CGPA × 10 | 82% |
KTU changed its formula in June 2023. Before that, the 2019 scheme used 10 × CGPA − 2.5, so older documents may show that formula. For more on two of these, see the CBSE CGPA to percentage calculator, which also works out your CGPA from your grades, and the VTU CGPA to percentage calculator, which explains how to tell your scheme.
My university isn't in the list
Look at the back of your grade card or consolidated marksheet: many universities print the conversion formula there. If it isn't there, the examination section of your university or college can issue a CGPA to percentage conversion certificate with the formula.
Then choose Another university and type the two numbers from the formula:
- For (CGPA − 0.75) × 10, subtract 0.75 and multiply by 10.
- For CGPA × 9.5, subtract 0 and multiply by 9.5.
- For CGPA × 10, subtract 0 and multiply by 10.
If an application form says which formula to use, follow the form. Many forms also ask you to upload the conversion certificate or the page that shows the formula, so keep a copy with your other documents.
Why the same CGPA gives different percentages
A CGPA is an average of grade points, not of marks, so there is no single exact way to turn it back into a percentage. Each board or university decides on a formula that fits its own grading. That is why you should always use your own university's formula rather than the one a friend from another university used. CBSE, for example, calls the result an indicative percentage: it is an approximation, not your exact marks.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between SGPA, CGPA and CPI?
SGPA is the grade point average of one semester. CGPA is the cumulative average of all the semesters so far. CPI is the name GTU uses for the cumulative average, so it works like a CGPA.
Can I convert my SGPA with the same formula?
The formulas above are published for the final CGPA. Some universities and colleges accept the same formula for one semester's SGPA; ask your examination section before you use it on a form.
Is my CGPA sent anywhere?
No. The calculation runs in your browser, and nothing you type is sent to dedigger or anyone else.
