How CBSE converts CGPA to percentage
CBSE marksheets under the CGPA system explain the conversion themselves. In the words of the CBSE circular:
- Subject-wise indicative percentage of marks = 9.5 × grade point of the subject.
- Overall indicative percentage of marks = 9.5 × CGPA.
The CGPA is the average of the grade points of all your subjects, not counting the additional subject. For example, grades A1, A2, A2, B1 and B1 give (10 + 9 + 9 + 8 + 8) ÷ 5 = 8.8, and 8.8 × 9.5 = 83.6%.
CBSE calls the result an indicative percentage: it is an approximation, not your exact marks. When a form asks for a percentage and you only have a CGPA, this is the figure to use, unless the form gives its own formula.

Frequently asked questions
Does this work for Class 12?
Class 12 results show marks, not a CGPA, so there is nothing to convert. The 9.5 formula is for Class 10 results issued under the CGPA system.
What about grades E1 and E2?
They have no grade point on the CBSE scale, so the calculator doesn't offer them.
Is my CGPA sent anywhere?
