Age calculator for government exams (age as on the cut-off date)
Every exam counts your age on one cut-off date. Enter your date of birth and the limits from the notification to see your exact age on that date and whether you can apply.
How to check your age limit
- Open the official notification of your exam and find the age limit section.
- Type the date on which the age is counted, such as 1 August 2026, and the minimum and maximum age.
- Enter your date of birth as it appears on your Class 10 certificate, and choose your category.
The calculator shows your exact age on that date, the dates of birth the exam accepts and whether yours is one of them.
How age limits work
Indian exam notifications usually say that you must have attained the minimum age and must not have attained the maximum age on the cut-off date. Most also give the same rule as two dates of birth. For example, the UPSC Civil Services 2026 notice asks for at least 21 and under 32 on 1 August 2026, which means being born between 2 August 1994 and 1 August 2005.
So if the limit is 32, you can still apply at 31 years and 364 days, but not on your 32nd birthday or later.
Age relaxation by category
These are the relaxations in the UPSC Civil Services 2026 notice. Many central government exams use the same ones, but always check your own notification.
| Category | Extra years on the maximum age |
|---|---|
| General or EWS | None |
| OBC (non-creamy layer) | 3 |
| SC or ST | 5 |
| PwBD | 10, added to the OBC or SC/ST relaxation if you also belong to one of them |
| Ex-servicemen | Usually 5, with conditions on years of service |
Frequently asked questions
Which date of birth should I use?
The one on your Class 10 (matriculation) certificate. Most exams accept only that date.
Do EWS candidates get an age relaxation?
Not in the UPSC Civil Services exam: EWS candidates have the same limits as General candidates. Other exams may differ, so check the notification.
Is my date of birth sent anywhere?
No. The calculation runs in your browser, and nothing you type is sent to dedigger or anyone else.
